Sunnix Transparency

On this page, we explain clearly and simply what data Sunnix collects, how it is used, and how long it is kept. We never save personal information (name, surname, phone number, etc.), unless you voluntarily enter it in a contact form.

Sessions

Every time you start a simulation or configuration on Sunnix, a temporary session is created that is only used to manage navigation in the simulation or configuration flow and compile internal statistics.

Saved data

  • Precise geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) are those you select on the map, or those automatically returned by the geocoding system starting from the entered address
  • Session type (simulation or configuration)
  • Whether you are using the Google Solar API or not
  • Session status (created or completed)
  • ID of the associated simulation or configuration (if completed)

Retention period

Sessions are kept for a maximum of 30 days, then automatically deleted

Example

If you enter an address, Sunnix shows you the map. You click the correct roof (if not already selected), and the precise coordinates of that point are saved (e.g., latitude 45.071, longitude 7.686). These coordinates remain only in the session logs and are deleted after 30 days

Simulations

When you perform a quick simulation, Sunnix saves the data to allow you to return and view the results later or share them with others.

Saved data

  • Entered address
  • Precise geographic coordinates of the point selected on the map (same as the session)
  • Maximum desired power for the system to simulate (kWp) and actual simulated power
  • Chosen panel (generic, from a partner company, or custom)
  • Estimated annual and monthly production (kWh)
  • Total number of panels and occupied area
  • Total cost of panels (if calculated, depends on whether the price per watt for the panel is present)
  • Creation date
  • Accuracy of the estimate: year-on-year standard deviation of production, irradiation on the module plane and the breakdown of losses, as PVGIS returns them
  • Other data present in the summary are automatically calculated by the page, but are not saved
Important: The additional data you can enter in the summary (e.g., installation cost, paperwork, battery storage, etc.) are not saved. They remain visible only as long as you keep the page open. If you decide to send a contact request, this additional data is included in the request, but can only be viewed by the Sunnix team to answer you in the best possible way. They are not visible when reopening the configuration.

Retention period

Simulations are kept for 48 hours, then automatically deleted.

Example

If you perform a simulation for a 3kWp system on your roof, Sunnix saves the estimated production data and the chosen power. After 2 days, the simulation is automatically deleted.

Configurations

When you perform a configuration, Sunnix saves the data to allow you to return and view the results later or share them with others.

Saved data

  • Entered address
  • Precise geographic coordinates of the point selected on the map (same as the session)
  • Maximum desired power for the system to simulate (kWp) and actual simulated power
  • Chosen panel (generic, from a partner company, or custom)
  • Data of the created pitches (surface area, tilt, orientation)
  • Estimated annual and monthly production (kWh)
  • Total number of panels and occupied area
  • Total cost of panels (if calculated, depends on whether the price per watt for the panel is present)
  • Creation date
  • Accuracy of the estimate: year-on-year standard deviation of production, irradiation on the module plane and the breakdown of losses, aggregated across the roof surfaces
  • Other data present in the summary are automatically calculated by the page, but are not saved

Example

If you configure a 4 kWp system with a certain type of panels and add battery storage in the summary, Sunnix saves the configuration data but not the storage. If you send a contact request, the storage is included only in that single request

Contact requests for simulations or configurations

If you decide to be contacted for a simulation or configuration, we only ask for your email and the type of request (Detailed quote, Deepen the production, Information on additional options, or To be re-contacted). This data is only used to answer you in the best possible way. We never ask for name, surname, phone number, or other personal data.

How it works

  • Sunnix saves a snapshot of your simulation or configuration (with the reference to the simulation or configuration and any extras filled out in the summary)
  • The request goes to the Sunnix team
  • If an available partner company exists, the request is forwarded to them. In any case, your data is never shared with others without your consent.

Virtual Plant and Digital Twin

When you register a Virtual Plant, Sunnix creates a digital twin of your solar system. This mathematical model simulates expected daily production based on real weather data from your area, compares the results with your actual production data, and automatically detects anomalies (dirty panels, inverter faults, degradation). Here's what data we collect and how we use it.

Saved data

  • Account email address (stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM)
  • Geographic coordinates of the system (latitude and longitude)
  • Total system power (kWp), number of panels, panel type and inverter
  • Characteristics of each roof slope (orientation, tilt, power, mounting type)
  • Energy price entered for savings calculation (€/kWh)
  • Daily simulation logs: date, estimated production (kWh), estimated savings (€), weather conditions, full result (hourly curve, model breakdown)
  • Digital twin calibration factors by type of day (clear, mixed, overcast) — computed automatically by the system
Important: the email is stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM. It is never visible in plain text, even internally. Actual production data uploaded (CSV or manual) is used exclusively to calibrate the model and detect anomalies — it is never shared with third parties.

How it works

  • Create an account with your email and register your system with location, power, and roof slope characteristics
  • Upload your production history (CSV from your inverter portal) to calibrate the model — or enter data day by day
  • Every day Sunnix simulates expected production using real weather data (irradiance, temperature, cloud cover) and compares it with your data
  • If an anomaly is detected, the system identifies the probable cause and calculates the economic loss. You can delete your account at any time.

Retention period

System data, simulation logs, and calibration are kept for the duration of the active subscription. After cancellation, data is maintained read-only until the paid period expires, then deleted within 30 days.

Example

You register a 6 kWp south-facing system in Milan. You upload last year's CSV history from your inverter portal. Sunnix calibrates the digital twin on your real data and, from that point on, compares expected production with actual production every day. If on a full-sun day the system produces 30% less than expected, Sunnix flags the anomaly, the probable cause (e.g. dirty panels), and the economic loss.

Average values used in calculations

The costs estimated by Sunnix are based on average market values collected from public and private sources.

Currently, costs are calculated on average market values. We are working to make the algorithm increasingly precise and closer to real cases: in the future, estimates will also take into account more concrete factors beyond system values. Furthermore, it will be possible to customize average values to adapt them to your case.

Analytics and third-party data

To improve the site and user experience, Sunnix uses third-party services for analytics and email management. These services collect data anonymously and in aggregate, without ever saving personal information.

  • If you accept cookies, we use Google Analytics for anonymous site usage statistics
  • If you subscribe to the newsletter, the technical management of emails is entrusted to Mailchimp
  • In both cases, data passes to external platforms according to their security policies
  • For the Virtual System service, emails are sent via Twilio SendGrid, according to their security policies
  • For the Virtual System service, weather data is obtained from Open-Meteo (only geographic coordinates, no personal data)

Explanation by artificial intelligence

In a configuration summary you can ask for an automatic explanation of your numbers. The request only starts if you press the button, and what leaves Sunnix is only the technical data of the system.

What is sent to Google Gemini

  • Chosen panel: name, power and efficiency
  • System power in kWp and number of modules
  • Estimated annual production and the summer/winter split
  • Orientation and tilt of the roof surfaces you drew
  • Storage capacity, if you added one

What is not sent

Address, coordinates, email and anything else that could point back to you: they are not in the text we send.

The answer is not saved: it stays on screen as long as you keep the page open. The model used is Google's gemini-2.5-flash-lite.

Roof data from Google

If you choose “Use the Google Solar API”, Sunnix asks Google for the shape of the roof at those coordinates: area, exposure and tilt of every surface, plus the estimated sunshine hours.

Why we keep it

Google's answer is cached and indexed on the coordinates, so a second visit to the same building does not trigger the request again. It is data about the building, not about you: it contains nothing personal.

If you choose “Do not use the Google Solar API” no request is made, and you draw the roof yourself on the map. The grid emission factor used for avoided CO₂ also comes from there, so we only use it on configurations made with the Solar API: on the others, and on every simulation, we use the national average, stated on the page.

Daily monitoring

If you turn monitoring on, every night the digital twin simulates the day just passed with the real weather of your area and compares the result with the production you report. Calibration and alerts come from that comparison.

What is stored

  • One record per simulated day: expected production, real production if you reported it, the weather used, any anomaly and its probable cause
  • The plant's three calibration factors — sunny, mixed, cloudy — updated at every real reading
  • The plant diary: the entries you write (cleaning, maintenance, faults, free notes) with date and optional cost
  • The checks you declare you have done after a day flagged as anomalous
  • The API keys you generate so an external system can report production: of each we keep only the cryptographic fingerprint, never the key itself

Email

The report arrives every day, every Monday or never: you choose from the plant preferences, and every email carries the link to turn it off. Turning it off stops the sending only — the simulation continues and the records stay.

Diary notes are text written by you and are treated as personal data: when the plant is deleted they disappear along with the records and uploaded files, while only an anonymous trace of the row remains — it exists to keep the accounting history of subscriptions required by law.

Sunnix Philosophy

Getting informed about solar energy must be a clear and stress-free experience. With Sunnix, you have free and accessible tools that allow you to run simulations, configurations, and calculations without having to leave your name, surname, email, phone number, etc.

It is like this with Sunnix, because:

  • We never ask for more data than necessary to provide you with the service
  • We never sell your data to third parties
  • We never use your data for targeted advertising
  • We never save data beyond the necessary time
Future site updates could lead to changes to this page, which however will not affect the core transparency concept of Sunnix. In that case, the 'Last updated' date at the top of the page will be updated.
