AgrivoltFVG and Sunnix: simulating the energy of the future on the farm

A training project on renewable energy, co-funded by the European Union, bringing research, technology and real calculation tools to the agricultural schools and farms of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

01The project

What AgrivoltFVG is

AgrivoltFVG – Green energy for a sustainable future is a communication and training project for young farmers, students and agricultural professionals. Its aim is to turn European energy transition policies into concrete opportunities for those who work the land: how to produce clean energy without taking land away from crops, how much a system really yields, and which subsidised finance tools make it possible.

The project is co-funded by the European Union and coordinated by Edilador Srl.

What we do

  • 1

    Free meetings

Free training meetings at agricultural schools and at the University, with teachers, researchers and technicians.

  • 2

    Field visits

Visits to agrivoltaic and solar systems in operation.

  • 3

    Real simulations

Simulations of solar systems on farms in the region.

  • 4

    Content that lasts

Educational content on the website, social media and YouTube, so the training stays available over time.

02Training and research

Training, research and companies: one single path

AgrivoltFVG works closely with the region's agricultural schools, where the meetings take place: ISIS Brignoli in Gradisca d'Isonzo and CeFAP in Codroipo. Alongside the schools is the University of Udine, with the SIER School, which brings to the classroom the most advanced renewable energy solutions developed in its research labs.

The result is a path that brings together training, research and experimentation, and puts it in dialogue with the companies that build the systems and with those who find the subsidised finance to support them. Students see how an idea becomes a project, and a project becomes a sustainable investment.

03The simulator

Why Sunnix and SoLink

The European project includes learning through play (gamification): an interactive tool for trying out a farm's energy choices first-hand. That tool is the Sunnix simulator.

  • 1

    Free, no sign-up

You start from the farm's address and consumption. Sunnix works out how much the system produces, how much energy is used on site, how much is saved and how many years the investment takes to pay back.

  • 2

    Where it will really go

On the roof of the barn or the shed, or on the ground. For a business, VAT and the share of energy used on site change, and Sunnix does the maths accordingly.

  • 3

    Numbers with a source

Output is calculated with PVGIS, the tool of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, at the exact spot where the system will go.

Sunnix was born in 2023 inside SoLink, which designs and manufactures solar technology in Italy.

That is how theory turns into numbers: with the consumption of a real farm and the spot where the system will go, students and farmers see in a few minutes how much it would produce, how much would be saved and how many years the investment would take to pay back.

How much a kWp yields in Friuli Venezia Giulia

  • 1,325

kWh a year for each kWp in Trieste, with the panels at the best angle

  • 1,313

kWh a year for each kWp in Trieste, on a roof tilted 30° to the south

04The meeting

The 26 October meeting at ISIS Brignoli

When
Monday 26 October 2026, from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm
Where
ISIS Brignoli, Gradisca d'Isonzo
What it covers
Return on investment and break-even point of a solar system on a farm, subsidised finance, research carried out by the students with the school's teachers.

During the meeting the Sunnix simulator will be used live on a real farm case.

07The future

Looking ahead

AgrivoltFVG does not want to stop at 2026. The goal is to become a lasting point of reference on renewable energy in agriculture, widening the collaboration between schools, universities and companies and involving new universities and regions.
